Red Hat Satellite Server installation fails with "ERROR: The installation media does not match your operating system:" .
Environment
- Red Hat Satellite Server 5.x
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop/Workstation
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.x and 6.x
Issue
- Red Hat Satellite Server installation fails with below mentioned error message:
[root@localhost]# ./install.pl
* Starting the Spacewalk installer.
* Performing pre-install checks.
ERROR: The installation media does not match your operating system:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (x86_64) vs. 6Workstation (x86_64)
Installation interrupted.
- Red Hat Satellite Server upgrade fails with below mentioned error message:
[root@localhost]# ./install.pl --upgrade
* Starting the Spacewalk installer.
* Performing pre-install checks.
ERROR: The installation media does not match your operating system:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (x86_64) vs. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (x86_64)
Installation interrupted.
- Can i install Red Hat Satellite Server on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop/workstation?
Resolution
- Install a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and then try to install Red Hat Satellite on top of it, for more infromation refer the Satellite 5.6 Installation Guide
- Use Red Hat Network Satellite v5.6 for Server v6 for upgrade.
Root Cause
- Red Hat Satellite Server can be installed on top of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server only and not on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop/client.
- While upgrade, Satellite 5.6 iso used is for RHEL5 and Satellite 5.5 is installed on RHEL6.
Diagnostic Steps
- Check RHEL version:
# uname -a
Linux localhost 2.6.32-504.1.3.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Oct 31 11:37:10 EDT 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
- Check Satellite 5.6 ISO used for upgrade:
satellite-5.6.0-20130927-rhel-5-x86_64.iso
