Kdump fails to save vmcore into a disk of non-zero segment number

Issue

  • Kdump fails if the segment number of a disk where kdump tries to save vmcore is not zero. Kdump cannot recognize the target disk and fails with the following message.
   PCI: not using MMCONFIG
   PCI: Using configuration type 1 for base access
   (snip)
   dracut-pre-pivot[3146]: device node not found
   kdump: dump target is 
   kdump: error: Dump target  is not mounted.
   kdump: saving vmcore failed
   Rebooting.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0
  • A system with multiple PCI segment groups
