Unable to use BCM57810 10 Gigabit NIC's on HP BL460c Gen 8 blades with RHEL 5

Issue

  • RHEL 5 prior to minor version 5.8 cannot be installed over the network to HP BL460c G8 blade server. PXE boot succeeds, but network does not function after the boot kernel is loaded.
    Networking is just not working on HP BL460c G8 blade server with RHEL 5 prior to minor version 5.8 installed.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 with minor release version below 5.8
  • HP BL460c Gen 8 server
  • Broadcom BCM57810 10 Gb on-board NIC
