Is JBoss EWS 2.1 supported with JBoss EPP 6 via mod cluster ?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Web Server (EWS)
    • 2.1
  • Red Hat JBoss Portal (EPP)
    • 6.x

Issue

  • The plan is to use "mod_cluster" in the EWS 2.0.1 Apache to balance requests to EPP 6 nodes. Please confirm that this is a supported configuration?

Resolution

  • Yes , Apache httpd 2.2.22 from EWS 2.0.1 is supported with JBoss EPP 6.0.
  • However one would need to use EPP 6.0 supported "modcluster" module for Apache httpd i.e. "modcluster" version in EPP 6.0 and EWS 2.0.1 must be same.
  • The JBoss EPP 6.0 is based on EAP 6.0.1 and EAP 6.0.1 out of the box provide mod_cluster 1.2.3.Final but EWS 2.0.1 out of the box provides mod_cluster 1.2.4.Final.
  • The mod_cluster 1.2.4.Final is not compatible with EPP 6.0 hence to be on the supported configuration one would need to download mod_cluster 1.2.3.Final module which is supported with EPP 6.0 and deploy that into EWS 2.0.1`
  • mod_cluster 1.2.3.Final for RHEL 6 x86_64 can be downloaded from here.
