How to log into Red Hat Directory Server console using only a uid ?

Issue

  • In some cases, trying to log into Red Hat Directory Server console with a * username only (uid attribute) fails with access denied
  • error message in the admin-serv error log :

    [Wed Mar 21 18:46:12 2012] [notice] [client x.x.x.x] admserv_host_ip_check: ap_get_remote_host could not resolve x.x.x.x
    [Wed Mar 21 18:46:12 2012] [notice] [client x.x.x.x] admserv_host_ip_check: host [host.example.com] did not match pattern [*.example.com] -will scan aliases
    [Wed Mar 21 18:46:12 2012] [crit] buildUGInfo(): unable to initialize TLS connection to LDAP host dirserv.example.com port 636: 4
    [Wed Mar 21 18:46:12 2012] [error] [client x.x.x.x] user <uid> not found: /admin-serv/authenticate
