How to stop the backup process that is created by db2bak.pl in Red Hat Directory Server 8.2?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Directory Server (All Versions)

Issue

  • Once the backup process is started using db2bak.pl, how can this process be stopped in event of an issue?

Resolution

  • To kill this process, you need to restart the server.
    • This may cause the system to come back up detecting a disorderly shutdown and will attempt to repair the database. As the backup is a read-only operation, there's nothing to repair and the system will continue to start as expected.

Root Cause

  • The db2bak.pl script creates an internal process to Directory Server. This process can not be stopped by any other means.
