"found uncontrolled kernel object <object> in /sys/kernel/dlm" when stopping cman in RHEL 5

Issue

  • groupd prints a message about an uncontrolled dlm kernel object when stopping cman
  Apr 13 17:02:41 node1 groupd[6827]: found uncontrolled kernel object rgmanager in /sys/kernel/dlm
  Apr 13 17:02:41 node1 groupd[6827]: found uncontrolled kernel object clvmd in /sys/kernel/dlm
  Apr 13 17:02:41 node1 groupd[6827]: local node must be reset to clear 2 uncontrolled instances of gfs and/or dlm
  • A cluster node is killed after the above uncontrolled object messages:
  Apr 13 17:02:41 node1 openais[6814]: [CMAN ] cman killed by node 1 because we were killed by cman_tool or other application
  • I cannot restart cman on a node without rebooting it
