How to download debuginfo packages like kernel-debuginfo?

Updated 2014-04-22T19:01:07+00:00

Issue

  • Many diagnostic and debugging utilities, including crash, SystemTap, oprofile, and gdb, require the "debuginfo" version of a package to be fully functional. For example, to analyze a kernel vmcore using crash, the kernel-debuginfo package must be installed. To analyze a program core file using gdb, the debuginfo package corresponding to the program that created the core file must first be installed.
  • Is there a customer-accessible place where a consolidated set of '/usr/lib/debug' for certain packages can be found?
  • The debuginfo packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL6) are not available from the ftp site ftp.redhat.com
  • Previous versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux made debuginfo packages available via URLs similar to this: ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/os/x86_64/Debuginfo/

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Red Hat Network (RHN)
  • Red Hat Satellite
