How do I resolve ERROR "Transaction not found" in MetaMatrix?

Symptom
While attempting to execute a federated query that performs SELECT on multiple tables. The query has been executing for at least a couple of minutes when an error is received, similar to:
[XATransactionException] ERR.003.031.0006: Transaction not found: Top-level_txnID: [txnm...Subscriber exclusive content
