Why didn't pam modules make user home directories automatically under krb5 with RHEL6?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • The the following option was used in /etc/pam.d/system-auth:
session required pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel umask=0022
  • Afterwards checked user authentication with krb5 was possible, but the pam_mkhomedir module did not make user home directories automatically.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • oddjob with ldap or krb5 authentication modules.
