How do I access all the files that are on a FAT32 extended partition if I have a dual boot machine with WinXP and Linux?

Files on a FAT32 filesystem may be mounted like any other filesystem using the vfat filesystem type. First determine the device file which represents the partition you wish to mount. Assuming IDE drives are in use:

  • The device name will start with hd

  • The next letter will represent the particular drive
