After updating to RHEL-5.7 or RHEL-6.1 rhn_check fills up /var/cache/yum with big xml.gz.sqlite files

Issue

  • The /var/ partition fills up when rhn_check is run.

  • rhn_register download over 200MB of metadata and causes absurd high network-usage on registring new servers

  • rhnsd calls rhn_check and downloads a couple of 100MB of metadata when new erratas are made available on Red Hat Network
