Hypervisor Ethernets being re numbered upon Approval

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • A fresh install of the hypervisor correctly shows the available ethernet connections and port reference numbers (ie eth0, eth1...eth7) reflected by ifconfig output and /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

  • However, upon registering and approving the hypervisor with the RHEV Manager, the port references from eth1 onward are changed to (eth8, eth9...eth14).
Moreover, /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules now contains duplicate port references numbers for each MAC address, one with its original port reference number and another with its new port reference.
The correct port references are retained in a newly created file 71-persistent-node-net.rules.

  • As a consequence, the incorrect port reference numbers are being reflected in the hypervisor network setup in the RHEV Manager.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation Manager (RHEV-M) 3.3.2-0.50
  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation Hypervisor (RHEV-H) 20140407.0.el6ev
