Regression: RHEL6 Network GUI tools (NetworkManager) does not allow enabling/disabling secondary IP addressing

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • In RHEL5, the GUI Network Configuration tool (system-config-network-gui) easily allows enabling/disabling alias interfaces and therefore secondary IP addresses can be enabled/disabled by simply ticking or unticking a checkbox.

  • In RHEL6, NetworkManager allows multiple IP addresses to be assigned to a single interface, but there is no way to enable or disable those addresses. You can use the GUI to add an address or remove an address, but you can't simply turn them off and on as needed.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • NetworkManager
