When using a Broadcom 578xx card iSCSI offload does not work with the bnx2i driver under RHEL 5.7

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.7
  • Broadcom 578xx Daughter Card/PCI Card

Issue

  • A server is listed as "Certified - Supported" on Red Hat's Hardware Certification site, but it was purchased with a Broadcom 578xx device. Is that Broadcom device also certified and supported by Red Hat?

Resolution

  • iSCSI offload does work on these cards when using TCP/IP
  • iSCSI does work using the bnx2i driver under Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8

Root Cause

  • This is a known bug:

  • [SeLinux] selinux stop iscsi login in via bnx2i
    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=761485

  • SELinux will deny access requested by iscsid. It is not expected that this access is required by iscsid and this access may signal an intrusion attempt.

  • This was fixed in RHEL 5.8
