When I close the lid on my Dell Precision Mobile Workstation, the screen's backlight stays on. Is this a problem?
Updated -
Some laptops do not correctly turn off the backlight when the lid is closed. A continually lit backlight will not cause any harm to the system, but it will drain the battery more quickly if the system is left closed for an extended period of time. We recommend configuring the laptop to suspend or hibernate if you regularly close the lid for long periods of time. Lid behavior can be defined in the Gnome Power Manager applet, which can be found in the panel at the top of the screen. Simply right-click the applet and choose Preferences. In the Preferences screen, choose the desired lid behavior under the Action category on both the "On AC Power" and "On Battery Power" tabs.
