Why is there no longer a "compatible" category for hardware certifications? Is my "compatible" system still supported?
In an effort to better support its customers, Red Hat updated the Hardware Certification Policy in parallel with the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1 (in the Fall of 2007). This change removed the multiple certification statuses and exposed the number of related Knowledgebase articles from the list view.
Certain certifications were impacted in terms of their usage of 3rd party drivers as part of this policy change. Specifically, the new policy requires 3rd party drivers may only be used on optional hardware; a small number of posted certifications have been identified as failing to meet this requirement.
These certifications were already posted and shall remain on the certification list with this additional Knowledgebase article linked to them.
Customers can expect that Red Hat will continue to support the hardware as any other certified hardware and the software to the point that it appears to be a problem with the 3rd party driver where the system vendor will be responsible for providing support. Details of this vendor driver support are provided in an additional Knowledgebase link on the individual certifications.
The following is the list of impacted certifications:
