RHEL4: "Unprocessed Host attention x8" on a system with HP SAN driver and Veritas

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

We have cluster server running RHEL4.6 AS and it got kernel panic two times in 18 days. Both time it was showing error

kernel: lpfc 0000:43:00.0: 0:0314 Unprocessed Host attention x8.

In https://access.redhat.com/site/solutions/24565 Red Hat advises that it is fixed in version 8.0.16.40 of lpfc. Yet the used SAN driver is not from RHEL but hp-lpfc-8.0.16.32-4 from HP. We also have Veritas 4.1.40.310-MP4RP3HF10_RHEL4 on this system which complicates changing a kernel.

1) what would be the effect of upgrading this RPMs.
2) Does this requires server reboot.
3) Is it feasible to upgrade this RPM.
4) Does this upgraded version is compatible with veritas version 4.1.40.310-MP4RP3HF10_RHEL4

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4
  • hp-lpfc-8.0.16.32-4 driver
  • Veritas software
