OpenShift nodes migrate automatically to cgroups v2 from cgroups v1

Issue

  • Following an RHOCP upgrade from 4.18.46 to 4.18.54, the cluster nodes unexpectedly migrated from cgroups v1 to cgroups v2. This occurred even though the cluster configuration explicitly had cgroupMode: v1 set under the nodes.config.openshift.io/cluster resource. This resulted in applications depending on cgroups v1 failing.
