OpenShift on vSphere nodes fail to obtain External IP due to multiple NICs in VM template

Issue

  • After upgrading to OpenShift 4.18, newly created worker nodes fail to obtain an External IP address.
  • The EXTERNAL-IP field in the output of oc get nodes -o wide appears as <none>.
  • This occurs when vSphere Cloud Controller Manager (CCM) is enabled.

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
    • 4.18 and later
  • VMware vSphere
  • vSphere Cloud Provider (CCM) enabled
