Process Core Dumps Not Collected in OCP 4.14 Due to `systemd-coredump` Failure

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Application pods in OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) 4.14.41 and below fail to generate core dumps. This prevents post-mortem analysis of application crashes, especially those ending in exit code 139 (segmentation faults).

  • Despite systemd-coredump being configured for core collection, recent dumps do not appear in coredumpctl list, and crash diagnostics are not recorded.

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.14 and later
  • Nodes using RHEL 9.2 container images
