Hostname resolution fails with "does not have any RR of the requested type" error in systemd-resolved on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8

Issue

  • Server unable to resolve the hostname. resolvectl fails with an error.
[root@hostname ~]#  resolvectl query fred123
fred123: resolve call failed: 'fred123' does not have any RR of the requested type
  • Name resolution using systemd-resolved fails.
[root@hostname ~]# resolvectl query fred456
fred456: resolve call failed: 'fred456' not found

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and above
  • systemd-resolved
