`cpupower frequency-info` doesn't work for frequency reporting for Granite Rapids. `cpupower idle-info` doesn't work for available idle states reporting for Granite Rapids either

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When using intel_pstate driver, cpupower frequency-info fails in frequency reporting and displays "current CPU frequency: Unable to call hardware" and "current CPU frequency: Unable to call to kernel":
# cpupower frequency-info
        ...
current CPU frequency: Unable to call hardware
current CPU frequency: Unable to call kernel
        ...
  • Also, cpupower idle-info doesn't display the available idle states supported by intel_idle for those processors correctly:
# cpupower idle-info
        ...
Available idle states: POLL C1_ACPI C2_ACPI <<----- C6 and C6P are missing
        ...

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4
  • kernel-tools (provides cpupower)
  • intel_pstate
  • acpi_cpufreq
  • Intel Xeon processors (Granite Rapids) (e.g., Xeon 6960P, Xeon 6953P)
