RHEL 9 removed support for openssh-ldap, what if I dont want to use sssd?

I am trying to get RHEL 9 to use a very basic LDAP configuration, but it appears as if it wants to force me to use RHEL Identity Management and SSSD

With a basic LDAP server that I have no control over, how am I supposed to make a simple connection for identification and authorization?
