podman search when using a Harbor container image registry server reports "unauthorized to list catalog"

Issue

  • When using podman as a container engine, I am able to log in to my Harbor container registry with podman login harbor.example.com.
  • When I attempt to do podman search I receive an error similar to the following:
$ podman search myimage
ERRO[0000] error getting search results from v2 endpoint "harbor.example.com": unauthorized: unauthorized to list catalog: unauthorized to list catalog

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
  • Podman or Docker container engine
