Issue

  • TCP connection requests are dropped at the load balancer or firewall when there's a quick ephemeral port reuse.
  • TCP Connections on a RHEL8 client are stuck in CLOSING, LAST-ACK or SYN-SENT and there's a quick ephemeral port reuse
  • Quick ephemeral port reuse on RHEL8, didn't happen on RHEL7.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • A10 or F5 Load balancer between the client and the server
  • Palo Alto, Cisco or Check Point firewall between the client and the server.
  • Traffic is mostly multiple short lived tcp connections
