Error: CreateContainerConfigError: host IP unknown; known addresses: [{Hostname master0.example.com}] is seen in kubelet logs.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When installing the cluster, bootstrap is able to start and master nodes are able to pull their ignition config file, but the install process times out and fails.
  • If KUBECONFIG is used to investigate the cluster, oc get nodes -o wide lists master nodes but they stay in NotReady and also their ip address is not shown in the INTERNAL-IP or EXTERNAL-IP columns.
  • Rebooting the nodes doesn't fix the issue.

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (RHOCP) 4.x
  • Vmware vSphere.
  • User Provisioned Infrastructure installation (UPI).
