RHEL8: The message "6460 VEN FDMI RPA failure" was output during OS startup

Issue

The following message was output during OS startup.

hostname kernel: lpfc 0000:86:00.0: 0:(0):6460 VEN FDMI RPA failure

I see this in the kernel log:

hostname kernel: lpfc 0000:12:00.0: 0:(0):6460 VEN FDMI RPA failure
hostname kernel: sd 2:0:0:101: alua: transition timeout set to 60 second
hostname kernel: sd 2:0:0:101: alua: port group 01 state A non-preferred supports tolUSNA

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.4-8.6
  • lpfc driver
  • kernel
    • all kernels >= 4.18.0-305.el8 (RHEL8.4GA) and < 4.18.0-425.3.1.el8 (RHEL8.7GA) are affected
    • issue was actually observed by customers on these kernels:
    • 4.18.0-305.12.1.el8_4
    • 4.18.0-305.17.1.el8_4
