After upgrade from RHEL 8.1 to 8.4, the fibre Channel devices are no longer discovered

Issue

  • After upgrading the system from RHEL 8.1 kernel-4.18.0-147.85 to 8.4 kernel-4.18.0-305.91.1.el8_4 or later, the fibre channel devices are no longer discovered.

    Booting with problematic kernel shows frequent Link Down/Up events on console:

    ibmvfc 30000011: Host partition: VIOS2, device: vfchost1 U11
    ibmvfc 30000011: Link Down event received. scsi_id: 0, wwpn: 0, node_name: 0
    ibmvfc 30000011: Link Up event received. scsi_id: 0, wwpn: 0, node_name: 0

    ibmvfc 30000011: Link Down event received. scsi_id: 0, wwpn: 0, node_name: 0
    ibmvfc 30000011: Link Up event received. scsi_id: 0, wwpn: 0, node_name: 0
