ROSA and OSD configure disk size of root volumes for worker nodes

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA)
    • classic
    • with Hosted Control Planes
  • Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated (OSD)

Issue

  • I want to save on cost of storage for small and large clusters, by reducing the size of the root volumes for worker nodes in my cluster which is currently set to 300GB.
  • I should be able to rely on the default value (today's sizing) or be able to select a smaller value down to a validated/acceptable minimum size for worker node root volumes.
  • I want to configure the OS disk / Root disk of my worker nodes when creating machine-pools or during cluster deployment.

Resolution

  • As of this writing its not possible to configure the OS disk and give it a preferred size on OpenShift Dedicated.

  • It is possible to configure the OS disk size on ROSA (Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS) classic.

  • There is currently an RFE to enable this configuration on ROSA with Hosted Control Planes.
