ipa-server-upgrade fails with an error "IPv6 stack is enabled in the kernel but there is no interface

Issue

  • IPA services refuse to start after system update.

  • ipa-server-upgrade fails with error "IPv6 stack is enabled in the kernel but there is no interface that has ::1 address assigned.

  • /var/log/ipaupgrade.log shows :

2023-05-28T14:17:25Z DEBUG Searching for an interface of IP address: ::1
2023-05-28T14:17:25Z DEBUG Testing local IP address: fe80::250:56ff:fe85:50af/64 (interface: ens192)
2023-05-28T14:17:25Z ERROR IPv6 stack is enabled in the kernel but there is no interface that has ::1 address assigned. Add ::1 address resolution to 'lo' interface. You might need to enable IPv6 on the interface 'lo' in sysctl.conf.
