Why an macvtap/macvlan based NIC can not be part of a linux bridge

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

A macvlan/macvtap based interface as part of a Linux bridge is limiting ingress traffic for other bridge ports.
Any other potential L2 clients in the same Linux bridge are not getting ingress traffic.

Environment

  • all rhel versions
  • a macvlan/macvtap based nic
  • a Linux bridge having the macvlan/macvtap based nic as one of its ports
