Why OpenShift Virtualization is always creating preallocated disks while importing image in block based storage?

Issue

  • When creating a DataVolume with volumeMode: Block by importing an image via http url, preallocation is being applied although preallocation is set to false in the DataVolume definition.
  • The disks are created with the virtual size of the image even when preallocation:false is passed in the DV definition.

Environment

  • OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) 4.10, 4.11, and 4.12.
  • OpenShift Virtualization 4.10, 4.11, and 4.12.
