Issue

  • When using the network legacy initscript service to bring up network interfaces, NICs fail to start with the following error logged:
network: Bringing up interface ERROR : [/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth] Device name#015 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.

Where name is the name of the network interface, such as:

network: Bringing up interface ERROR : [/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth] Device eth0#015 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.
network: Bringing up interface ERROR : [/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth] Device bond#015 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and earlier
  • Legacy network service provided by initscripts
