OCP 4.x IPI installation fails if the hostname of a node is more than 64 characters since it is setting FQDN as the hostname for the node.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Baremetal IPI Installation fails if the hostname of a node is >64 chars since it is setting FQDN as the hostname for the node.
  • This is because of HOST_NAME_MAX<=64 requirements set by RHCOS. Set hostname fails during RHCOS installation and the node ends up having hostname set to localhost.

Environment

  • Red Hat Openshift Container Platform 4.x
