Tabs are converted into spaces when printing text files in RHEL 8 and later versions

Issue

Tabs is converted to spaces when the file is printed via CUPS in RHEL, which is not ideal for our case as we need to keep the tab in the output file as well. We are using the "textonly" driver for this printer.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 and later versions
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) 2.2.6 and later versions
  • cups-filters-1.20.0 and later versions
