Issue
- How to transfer logs to an external log store such like CloudWatch on ROSA/OSD clusters.
Resolution
As the logging add-on is now deprecated, it's needed to deploy and use the Red Hat OpenShift Logging operator through OperatorHub in OSD/ROSA clusters instead of using logging add-on operator. Refer to Installing the logging subsystem for Red Hat OpenShift for additional information about the installation.
If the logging add-on is already installed in the OSD/ROSA cluster, it's possible to migrate it to use RHOL as explained in: Migration from the Logging add-on to Red Hat OpenShift Logging (RHOL).
Note: Red Hat recommends to use the AWS CloudWatch solution. Refer to Forwarding logs to Amazon CloudWatch for more details how to configure the forwarding.
Note: The documentation for OpenShift Logging in OSD can be accessed changing
rosatodedicatedin the above URLs.
Root Cause
The Logging add-on from OSD and ROSA is deprecated and will be removed. Instead of the add-on, it's possible to install the same OpenShift Logging operator than in OCP. Red Hat recommends to configure OpenShift Logging to forward the logs to AWS CloudWatch.
