"Timed out waiting for device" events logged for LVs during boot

Issue

  • During the boot process we are seeing:

    Timed out waiting for device dev-mapper-vg\x2dlv.device

  • This occurs for several of our LV's and causes dependency failures dropping us into emergency mode

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7
  • Logical Volume Manager (LVM)
  • Systemd
