Delay between packet arrival and poll() system call returning

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Delay between packet arrival and poll() system call returning
  • There is an application that listens to the network for packets from external device on multicast address. It turns out that occasionally packets are significantly delayed by network stack (more than 160ms) which causes breaking performance requirements for our applications. Our SLA is to receive a packet within 25ms.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Networking
  • Low latency network application
