  • vss snapshot for windows on kvm with API to allow zfs and brtfs and any other slick file system

    Posted on

I love zfs but right now all my snapshots are dirty shutdowns because my KVM guests don't have a way to tell ZFS to take the snap after windows is told to do a vss snap (cleaning up the disk for safe snap).

This is to me the most important feature redhat could implement because everything else I've asked for I have a reasonable work around. Maybe there is a work around but I don't yet know it.

I understood there is a thought to do this right now using LVM:

    http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=kvm%20snapshot%20vss&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDQQFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fevents.linuxfoundation.org%2Fslides%2F2011%2Flinuxcon-japan%2Flcj2011_sorensen.pdf&ei=CqzSUN-7CYjDrQGV04HADg&usg=AFQjCNHgvX5gUmO2kXaSEJYn-Jmu_zD2CA&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.aWM&cad=rja

I just REALLY hope there is something of an API so the ZfsOnLinux (ZOL) team can use it. They have made it clear to me that the KVM vss snapshot feature is something the would seriously consider implementing.
