System registration fails with "Service level 'SERVICE_LEVEL' is not available to units of organization xxxx"

Issue

  • Not able to register system with subscription-manager. It fails with following error:
# subscription-manager register  --auto-attach --servicelevel=SERVICE_LEVEL
Username:
Password:
The system has been registered with id: 1234-xxxx-5678
Service level 'SERVICE_LEVEL' is not available to units of organization xxxx.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.7 and newer
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 and newer
  • Red Hat Subscription Management (RHSM)
