How to bypass or disable the NFS cache on a NFS client.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • While testing the transfer of data from the NFS Client to the NFS server, the NFS client seems to be buffering the data before sending it to the server.

  • Looking at the kernel cache on the NFS client and the network data going from the client to the server while transferring data from NFS client to NFS sever, the cache grows for a while with no data connection and then a burst of network activity occurs.

  • This lead to the conclusion that there is a cache in play for this.

  • How big is this buffer? Can it be disabled?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/6/7/8
  • NFS
