Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • How to test bonding?
  • How do I properly test bonding failover?
  • Testing bonding failover with ifdown, ifenslave,ip link, nmcli, echo into bonding's sysfs directory produces unexpected results.
  • Changing bonding slaves to test high availability gives the message:
bonding: bondX: Warning: the permanent HWaddr of ethX - 00:00:00:xx:xx:xx - is still in use by bondX.
Set the HWaddr of ethX to a different address to avoid conflicts.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Multiple network interfaces aggregated into one with the bonding driver
