Converting VM on Red Hat 4 XEN host to Red Hat 6.4 KVM

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

Trying to convert a XEN VM on a Redhat 4 server to KVM (on a RHEL 6.4 host) using standard virt-v2v command. I'm getting the following error:

bin/nc: invalid option -- U

because the version of netcat on the XEN host is so old that it does not support the -U option. I tried installing GNU netcat v0.7.1 on the XEN host and specifying the nc command with a "?netcat=/usr/local/bin/nc" param in the virt-v2v command, but it looks like the GNU version doesn't support UNIX domain sockets either. How do I do this conversion/migration? Is there a different netcat distro/version available that I can install on the XEN host?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4 running virt-v2v
  • Xen VM running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
