Red Hat OpenShift providing OpenJDK 11 image has character map file UTF-8 not found: No such file or directory

Issue

  • On an Red Hat Universal Base Image
    ubi8-openjdk11-1.10-10 image, after installing glibc packages, localedef cannot find the charmap files:

  • [error] character map file UTF-8 not found: No such file or directory

  • [error] default character map file ANSI_X3.4-1968 not found: No such file or directory
  • Can be compared to ubi8-openjdk11-1.3-6 image where everything is working.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linus 8.4 (RHEL).
  • Red Hat Universal Base Image.
  • OpenJDK 11.
