I get the error "PROT_EXEC|PROT_WRITE failed" when trying to execute the hpsum binary on my RHEL5 system

Issue

We are in the process of upgrading the HP Proliant Support Pack (PSP) to v8.73 on all our systems. I have performed the update successfully on 3 systems in a MC-ServiceGuard cluster but the 4th node gives the following error:

PROT_EXEC|PROT_WRITE failed.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 x86_64
  • hpsum (32-bit) binary from HP Proliant Support Pack (PSP)  v8.6, v8.73, v8.9
  • This has also been observed whilst running the Radia Client installer
  • Vmware Guest.
