Why would FTP clients get 'Permission denied' messages when they try to upload files or create directories?

One possible reason for this error is the lack of disk space on the FTP server's root file system.

Use the command

df -h

to see if the filesystems have disk space available. If the FTP server's root filesystem has 100% used, you will have to add disk space or remove some files to make room.
