Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • In system-config-printer, each printer has an exclamation mark on it. The error message is

    Printer 'printer': 'cups-insecure-filter'

  • When a printer is configured to use backend, below error messages appear in the cups log file:

    E [27/Nov/2013:13:14:50 -0500] Unable to execute /usr/lib/cups/backend/email: insecure file permissions (0100777)
E [27/Nov/2013:13:14:50 -0500] [Job 86] Stopping job because the scheduler could not execute the backend.

  • Jobs aren't printing and see the following errors in the systemd journal:

    Sep 30 10:57:39 cupsd[359439]: lp19: Directory "/usr/lib/cups/filter" has insecure permissions (040775/uid=0/gid=0).
