Intel 82574L NIC dies after upgrading to RHEL6.5

Issue

  • The network fails after a reboot
  • Errors and drops are seen for received/incoming packets
  • There is an issue with the e1000e driver on the 6.5 RHEL release. After upgrading a system from 6.4 to the 6.5, the previous kernel (2.6.32-358.el6) does not display any issues or errors on the NIC. But with kernel 2.6.32-431.el6, the kernel starts dumping traces of code and halting the NIC

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5
    • kernel-2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64
  • e1000e driver/module
  • Intel 82574L network card
