multipath trying to detect non-existent devices after disk migration

Issue

  • After a disk migration from HITACHI to EMC HW some errors are appearing in /var/log/messages.
    These messages appear when doing (multipath -r).However there are errors with this dm-6 that is not present in the server:
Oct 14 10:09:17 host1 kernel: device-mapper: table: 253:6: multipath: error getting device
Oct 14 10:09:17 host1 kernel: device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table
Oct 14 10:09:17 host1 multipathd: dm-6: remove map (uevent) 
Oct 14 10:09:17 host1 multipathd: dm-6: devmap not registered, can't remove

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.9
